Next SlowDownDundas day - Tues. Sep. 30, 2008, 8am

Everyone will gather at the intersection of Penticton and Dundas to help school children cross the increasingly dangerous roadway. Bright costumes, silly smiles, and courteous waves will greet the drivers who are using Dundas inappropriately as a through-way.

Hot chocolate and coffee provided. Come on out and support the kids!

Hastings-Sunrise Community Vision meeting

November 25, 2004

7:00pm-9:00pm
Hastings Community Centre - 3096 Hastings

City Planning asked that the Dundas Street Group to be a part of this meeting. Edna Cho constructed a presentation
booth and a panel of photos from our Slow Down Dundas
Days to help explain to neighbours who we are and what
we are doing. Carol Alexander spoke a bit about it. The Knight's armour was on display.

Third SDD day - Fri, Oct 29th, 2004

14:45-15:30 (afternoon) at Dundas Street and Penticton Street

Another gathering of concerned people, seasonally attired (OK - dressed up in costumes!), helped children cross Dundas Street and brought attention to the presence of school children at the crosswalk. Again, the emphasis was on community celebration and support for school safety.

Many came out, despite the rain, to help raise awareness. Headless crossing guards, cavorting goats, blind justice and little faeries (as well as the fearless Crossing Knight of Dundas) were on hand to liven things up. Treat bags were handed out to the kids (and some lucky drivers).

And this time we had a bagpiper - here comes Nick!!! Oh my....

Second SDD day - Wed, Sep 22th, 2004 (PDF)

14:45-15:30 (afternoon) at Dundas Street and Slocan Street

Another gathering of concerned people helped children cross Dundas Street and bring attention to the presence of school children at the crosswalk. The sense was that motorists may be less aware in the afternoons than mornings. Once again, the Crossing Knight of Dundas made an impression on the unwary, ensuring that vehicles stopped when they are supposed to.

Parents and residents of the neighborhood dropped by and expressed their appreciation. Most drivers seemed to be patient and understanding. A local Speed Watch team with radar also helped to inform drivers of their speed on the streets.

The Province caught the Crossing Knight of Dundas in action.

First SlowDownDundas (SDD) day - Tue, Sep 7th, 2004

08:00-09:00 (morning) at Dundas Street and Slocan Street

On the first day of school, many parents, residents, community
leaders and children gathered to alert traffic to the
presence of parents and school children crossing the street.
Banners, costumes, performers, and general (safe) revelry
greeted motorists passing through the neighbourhood. It
was an opportunity to bring the community together and also act
on the importance of our most precious charge - the safety of our
children.
